So leise es in der JHB gestern gewesen ist, so laut war es heute Morgen. Es kommt eben immer auf die Besucher an.

Einen großen Unterschied in der Beziehung habe ich heute Morgen in der Küche gesehen. Gestern kam eine große Gruppe von Italienern an (ca. 10 Pers.). Anscheinend eine Familie. Die haben gestern Abend die öffentlichen Räume in Beschlag genommen, weil sie beim Essen unbedingt eine lange Tafel bilden wollten. Die Frauen haben das Abendessen zubereitet und danach war die Küche wieder aufgeräumt.

Ein paar andere Leute hatten es trotzdem geschafft, ihr dreckiges Geschirr stehenzulassen. Aber es war bei weitem nicht so viel, wie den Tag vorher.

Ich bin dann recht früh losgefahren. Auf dem ersten Stück ging es Richtung Invercargill, da ich einen großen Supermarkt suchte, bei dem ich mich für die nächsten Tage eindecken konnte, denn ich habe schon befürchtet, daß ich in den Catlins nur bedingt einen finden werde (was sich bewahrheitet hat!!).

Von dort aus wollte ich die Straße direkt unten am Meer entlang nehmen. Meine Navi-App hat das nicht zugelassen, da es auch einen schnelleren Weg gab. Google Maps hatte damit kein Problem und daher habe ich heute zum ersten Mal Google Maps als Navi genommen, was auch ohne Probleme funktioniert hat.

Der erste Stopp war am Leuchtturm von Waipapa Point. Da mußte ich zum ersten Mal feststellen, daß draußen zwar die Sonne schien, es aber wegen des Windes trotzdem ziemlich kühl war. Ich will nicht kalt schreiben, da ich weiß, daß daheim Schnee liegt. Aber nach dem ganzen letzten Wochen bei um die 25°C merkt man 11°C weniger doch schon sehr!!

Vor dort aus ging es weiter die Küste entlang. Die Landschaft erinnerte mich etwas an Irland mit den flachen grünen Hügeln.

Nächster Stopp war bei Curio Bay. Hier kann man bei Ebbe einen versteinerten Wald am Strand bewundern. Man konnte noch richtig die Stämme erkennen.

Der letzte Halt des Tages galt den McLean Wasserfällen, die mit einer kurzen Wanderung zu erreichen sind.

Danach habe ich mich auf die Suche nach meinem Domizil für die nächsten Tage gemacht. Nach einer kurzen Suche bin ich auch fündig geworden. Das Problem war nur dort hin zu kommen. Einmal wäre ich fast auf dem Schotterweg steckengeblieben!!

Die Hilltop Accommodation besteht aus 2 Häusern. Ich bin im oberen Haus, in dem sich außer meinem 2-Bett-Zimmer noch 3 weitere Doppelzimmer befinden. Ein niederländisches Ehepaar hat das untere Haus bezogen.

Theoretisch sollte ich mir das Bad mit anderen teilen. Aber um 20 Uhr bin ich immer noch alleine in dem Haus und ich denke mal, daß das wenigstens für heute auch so bleibt. Nach dem ganzen Trubel und Lärm der letzten Tage und Wochen ist die Stille hier schon fast unangenehm.

Mein viel größeres Problem ist, daß ich hier weder Internet noch eine Telefonverbindung habe. Ich muß mich morgen ersten einmal auf die Suche nach einem WLAN-Spot machen. Wenn es hier so etwas überhaupt gibt.

Auf der anderen Seite bin ich ja zum Erholen hier!! Und die Aussicht von hier oben ist einfach großartig!!

As quiet as the YHA was yesterday, this morning it was loud again!! It always depends on the visitors.

I could see one big difference in the kitchen this morning. Yesterday a group of Italiens (appr. 10) arrived. As it seems  a family. They were occupying the dinnig area as they wanted to sit at one big table during dinner. The women made dinner and afterwards the kitchen was clean again.

A couple of people managed to leave their dirty dishes uncleansed nonetheless. But the kitchen did not look as bad as the day before.

I had a very early start. First I drove towards Invercargill as I needed a big supermarket where I could buy what I would need for the next couple of days. I guessed that I would not find a supermarket in the Catlin were I was going and as it seems I was right!!

From Invercargill I wanted to take the costal route. For some reason my gps-app would not show me that route. So I had to switch to Google Maps as a GPS which worked without a problem.

The first stop was at the lighthouse at Waipapa Point. There I had to realize for the first time that the sun might be shining today, but the wind was very cold. I will not complain as I know that back home they are having snow. However after 25°C on average over the last couple of weeks a drop of 11°C is more than just noticeable!!

From there I followed the coast line. The landscape with its rolling green hills reminded me of Ireland.

The next stop was Curio Bay. Here you can find a petrified forest on the beach at low tide. You could still see some of the tree trunks lying there.

Last stop for today was at the McLean waterfalls that could be reached after a short stroll.

Afterwards I started the “search” for my home for the next couple of days. I found it quite easily. However getting there was the problem. At one point I nearly got stuck on the gravel road going there.

The Hilltop Accommodations consists of 2 houses. I am at the top house that not only has my twin room but another 3 double rooms. A couple from the Netherlands is occupying the lower house.

In theory I should share the bathroom with others. But it is 8 pm and I am still the only one here and will remain so for at least today. After all the people and noise the last couple of weeks the silence here is nearly uncomfortable.

The much bigger problem is that I have neither internet nor mobile connection here. First thing tomorrow I have to have a look for wifi. I only hope that something like that exists here!!

On the other hand I am here to relax!! And the view is just great!!

04FEB15 - engl. Version

Heute habe ich wirklich nicht viel gemacht, außer den ganzen Tag zugeschaut, wie sich die Klippen unten am Meer mit dem Wetter verändern. Mehr ist auch nicht machbar, da es im Stundentakt entweder regnet oder die Sonne scheint und es draußen außerdem stürmt!! Da hat man wirklich keine Lust etwas zu unternehmen.

Die Internetverbindung hier ist Glückssache. Das Haus hat definitiv keine. Ich muß also von irgendjemanden ein offenes Signal empfangen. Aber es ist leider nicht sehr stabil. Es reicht für die eine oder andere E-Mail oder zum Hochladen der Seiten. Aber mehr auch nicht.

Nach dem ich letzte Nacht alleine hier verbracht habe, sind wir heute zu zweit. Vor ein paar Stunden ist eine nette Britin angekommen, mit der ich mich gut verstehe.

Keine Ahnung, was ich morgen mache. Evtl. wieder das Gleiche wie heute, wenn sich das Wetter nicht bessert.

I did not do a lot today except watching the cliffs down at the sea changing with the weather. There was not much more to do anyway. The weather changed by the hours and it either rained or the sun came out. Also it is pretty stormy outside!! Not the weather you like to go out!!!

The WIFI connection is a kind of lottery. The house does not have one for sure therefore I must get one from someone around with an open connection. But unfortunately it is quite unreliable. It is ok for the odd e-mail or for the upload of the blog but not more!!

After being on my own last night a British lady arrived earlier today and we are getting along well.

No idea what I am going to do tomorrow. Eventually the same as today if the weather is not changing.

05FEB15 - engl. Version

Zu Paula aus England hat sich noch Annah aus den USA gestern gesellt und wir drei haben uns drinnen bei Tee, Kaminfeuer und Karten einen schönen Abend gemacht, da das Wetter sich nicht besserte.

Heute ist das Wetter noch schlimmer. Während wir gestern wenigstens ab und zu mal die Sonne gesehen haben, regnet es heute ständig. Paula und Annah wollten eigentlich um 10 Uhr losfahren, sind dann aber noch geblieben, in der Hoffnung es würde bald aufhören. Nach einem schönen Mittagessen zu dritt haben beide um 15 Uhr eingesehen, daß sie die Wahl haben, entweder hierzubleiben oder trotz Regen loszufahren. Da Paula eine Unterkunft in Invercargill gebucht hatte, blieb Ihr nichts anderes übrig, als die letztere Option zu wählen. Es war schade, als die beiden losfuhren, denn wir drei haben uns sehr gut verstanden.

Paula hat Annah mitgenommen, da die (eigentlich) trampen wollte!!

Ganz alleine werde ich heute Nacht auch nicht sein, da gerade ein junges Pärchen aus Österreich angekommen ist, daß sich kurzfristig entschieden hatte, daß es bei dem Wetter nicht weiter campen wollte!!

Das Bild ist von gestern, als wir hier ein paar wunderschöne Regenbögen hatten.

Ich hoffe nur, daß das Wetter morgen besser wird, da ich mir noch Einiges ansehen wollte auf dem Weg nach Dunedin.

To Paula from England came Annah from the USA yesterday and the three of us had a nice and cosy evening with tea, fire in the fireplace and cards. But we stayed inside as the weather was not getting any better.

Today the weather is even worse. Yesterday we at least hat some sunny spell but today it is raining all day long. Paula and Annah had planned to be on their way at 10 am. However they stayed hoping that the weather would get better. After a nice lunch the two of them took off at 3 pm after they decided that the weather will not get better today and they either stay or start anyway despite the rain. Since Paula had booked an accommodation in Invercargill staying was not an option. It was a pity when the two of them took off as the three of us had a good time together.

Paula gave Annah a lift who had planned to hitchhike!!

But I will not be alone tonight as a young couple from Austria just arrived who did not want to continue camping in this weather!!
